The "Troy" is a measurement of weight that got its name from the French city of Troyes, which became an important trade city during the Middle Ages. The Troy unit of measurement was primarily used for precious metals, drugs and precious gems, such as diamonds. One Troy ounce is the equivalent of 31.1035 grams, or 480 grains.
